When installing LEAP Desktop on a computer that has not previously had it installed, a user may encounter the following error message:

[LEAP Installer Information]
Error 1310: Error writing to file: C:\WINDOWS\Fonts\leap-status.ttf. Verify that you have access to that directory.

[Abort] [Retry] [Cancel]

This error occurs because the installer does not have permissions to write to the C:\Windows\Fonts folder. If there are other error messages popping up as part of the process, they will be related.

This issue should not occur for computers that have already had LEAP installed unless we have a new font to install with newer LEAP Desktop versions. Brand new computers potentially could see this.

This is a security issue. If you try to remove the read-only attribute on C:\Windows\Fonts folder, you will receive an Access is denied message.

You will also note that there is no Security tab on the Properties screen for the Fonts folder.

This occurs even if it can be verified that users are part of the Local Admin group and/or the installer is run as Administrator (even running cmd.exe as Administrator will result in access errors when trying to modify security on the Fonts folder).

It seems that the C:\Windows\Fonts folder is not inheriting full permissions from the C:\Windows folder or something (or someone) has modified/damaged them.

Helpdesk should offer the following advice requiring an IT Consultant:

If none of the above helps, the IT Consultant is left with the following options.

• Run chkdsk /r c: (plausible but unlikely that permissions issues are caused by a file system error)

• Run a Windows repair (this should reapply default permissions to system folders)

• Perform a clean reinstall of Windows (we are confident this will resolve the issue).
