How do I free up space on my harddrive which is being used by unnecessary LEAP material?

Jessie Hughes (Customer) asked a question.

How do I free up space on my harddrive which is being used by unnecessary LEAP material?

There are some old answers to this which I've tried, but the folders on my computer don't correspond to the answers given. Has anyone done a hard drive LEAP clean up recently and have new instructions?

    Hi Jessie,

Thank you for submitting your inquiry to the LEAP Community Discussions page.

Thank you for logging a Support Case with the LEAP HelpDesk, relating to freeing up storage on your local drive.

While LEAP is a cloud product, it also locally caches data such as documents, emails, PDFs etc to create an optimal user experience. Caching is done for 2 reasons in particular:

    1. If anything were to happen to the Amazon Web Servers (AWS) and your documents were not able to be accessed, you could now use the locally saved documents that LEAP has cached for you to continue your work until AWS services return to normal.
    2. If these files were not cached, the load times when opening these documents would be increased noticeably due to LEAP having to constantly request data from AWS, hence slowing down your production. Loading local files will always be much faster than retrieving/downloading files from a server that thousands of people are all trying to access.

Nevertheless, you can safely remove the cached files that are generated by LEAP. However, we do highly recommend that you back up these files for safekeeping purposes even though they have been saved to the cloud in case any documents were corrupted due to internet connection issues.

You can delete certain files in the CDE folder in local app data:

    1. Press the Windows key + R > type %localappdata% > click OK to go to the local app data folder
    2. Open the LEAP Desktop folder
    3. Open the CDE folder
    4. Open any folder
    5. Open the Archive folder
    6. You can safely remove the contents in this folder

IMPORTANT: do not delete the Archive folder itself, only the contents inside the Archive folder.

Repeat steps from 3 to 6 and choose a different folder inside CDE (if applicable).

You can also delete certain files in the User folder in local app data:

    1. Press Windows key + R > type %localappdata% > click OK to go to the local app data folder
    2. Open the LEAP Desktop folder
    3. Open the User folder
    4. Open any folder
    5. Open the LEAP Documents and Images folder
    6. Open the LEAP Documents folder
    7. You can delete all the files EXCEPT the Send Folder or any documents inside the Send Folder.

Repeat steps from 3 to 7 and choose a different folder inside the USER folder (if applicable).

Please note that as LEAP is a hybrid cloud system that utilises some local files, LEAP will continue to save/download files on your computer to the local app data folders. This allows LEAP to re-open files faster without having to re-download them from the cloud server.

    Thanks,

    Shane
