How do you write off a bad debt

  • Simon Jack (LEAP)

    Hi Lynn,

In order to write off a debt, you can follow these steps:

    1. Locate the matter where the debt is owed
    2. Locate the finalised invoice which will not be paid
    3. Right-click and select 'Adjust Invoice'
    4. In the top-right of the new window, click the three little dots, and then select 'Write off'
    5. Enter the amount you will write off as a negative figure in the 'Amount' field, and also in the 'Adjustment' field
    6. Save and Close

If you have any further difficulties with this, you can contact our HelpDesk at support@leap.com.au

    Thanks,

    Simon

How do you direct the write off to a bad debt expense GL account?

Hi Kathy - did you receive a response to this? I would be interested in knowing this as well. Cheers Jen

I have been trying to figure this out too. I did the same process the other day to include a discount in an invoice that hadn't been done originally. It ends up in the account discounts given. So I decided to change the GL code to my bad debts GL code and then do the above. This sends them to bad debts in the accounts. I will then change the GL code back once I am done.
