Be aware that the new version of LEAP requires at least 50GB of space on your C drive!

Cathryn Lak (Customer) asked a question.

Be aware that the new version of LEAP requires at least 50GB of space on your C drive!

LEAP forces the install of the system files, cached files and data files onto your C Drive. Unfortunately, many computers, mine included have quite small C drives and larger D or other drives for documents, and other data requirements. If you do not have this space available, LEAP will fail to install. The C drive will have Windows and other essential software also installed on it. Most of this cannot be moved to another drive.

Most users will find this out the hard way. They will get a popup message when logging into LEAP to tell them to upgrade and click ok. It does NOT warn the user that they need 50GB free or to go and check it. The upgrade will just fail. As we all kow, eventually, if you ignore the messages to upgrade, LEAP forces the upgrade on you. So, you will be forced to upgrade and if you do not have the space available, you won't have LEAP on your computer.

LEAP's directions for freeing up space on your C drive involves having the user do a reasonably complicated set of steps to move the backup files created by LEAP to another drive. Here is what they gave me as a set of instructions:

" Ok, well we can provide additional steps to help you clear out your disk space in regards to clearing out some LEAP files. However the diskspace needs to not be in the red zone otherwise there is not enough room to fully install the new LEAP desktop. Here are some steps to clear out your disk space:

1. Press Windows key + R to bring up the Run window

2. Type %localappdata% and click OK

3. Open the folder LEAP Desktop then open CDE

4. In the CDE folder, you may have multiple folders. Look at the Date Modified column to find the most recently created folder.

5. Open the most recently created folder then open the Archive folder

6. Before removing anything, please ensure that you back up the contents of the Archive folder onto an external hard drive or device of your choice

7. Once all the contents have been backed up, you may delete everything inside the Archive folder. Please do not delete the Archive folder itself, only its contents

8. If you have multiple folders with the CDE folder, you may want to repeat steps 5 to 7 for each folder if you wish. The above instructions can also be completed for the "OfficeDocuments" and "Acrobat" folders." "

I do not believe this is acceptable. This is an extraordinarily large amount of space to need and the issue will become worse once Windows 11 is going to be installed.
