    Hi @Bjorn Morrison (Customer),

Thank you for posting on LEAP Community Discussions.

Due to security considerations, it is not possible to access a restricted matter without logging in as the staff member the matter is restricted to. If this staff member is no longer at the firm LEAP admin will need to carry out the following steps below.

    1. Temporary assign a license to the account the matter is restricted to
    2. Reset the password for the user account
    3. Login as the user
    4. Remove/Change the matter restrictions

Let us know if you require further assistance.

    Best regards,

    Sebastian.

      Thanks Sebastian.

Please consider adding this functionality so that admins can access and unlock matters without having to login as other users.

Please re-consider your advice on a public forum to login as a different user. Knowing who did what is key in version control and security, and I specifically already ruled out logging in as the original user for these reasons. I know you said to do so in the context of a user who has left the firm, but that is not the case in my question.

I'll ask the user to unlock the file themselves seeing as LEAP does not have the functionality for an admin to do this.

      Thanks again for your answer.

    Plus 1 for this.

It's a pain when it was a former staff member who locked a matter. It involves having to change access and licenses so you can then sign in as a user and unlock the file. It's time consuming and not making running a firm easier.

If a user is the admin for the firm, then they should have greater control on things like this.

It's hardly a security consideration if I can go in, change the user's password, log in as them and then view or unlock the file.

Has this functionality been updated yet - it seems ridiculous that an admin user can't unlock a matter (the point of having an admin user is to have full functionality of the system).

How has this issue not been updated? Provides opportunities for disgruntled staff that are leaving to cause significant problems such as restricting access to multiple matters with no efficient way for administrators to undo the damage. Another reason to seriously consider competitors, such as SmokeBall which always provides Firm Owners with access to restricted files.

Has there been any consideration from LEAP to provide admin users with access to work around restricted matters? We have a client who wants information from a five year old matter and we can't access it as it was restricted by past employees. Bit embarrassing for us.
