The Criminal Charges table appears in every NSW criminal and traffic matter. It is enabled by default for new matters created from the release date forward.

When you open the table for the first time on a matter, there is a button to allow LEAP to scan the correspondence and documents already saved against that matter and populate a row for every charge it can identify.

Each row arrives pre-filled with:

• Sequence number
• Law Part Code (linked to the legislation lookup)
• Section
• Act
• Offence description
• Date of charge
• Status (Active by default)

You will see an Accept button on every AI-suggested row, so it is clear which entries still need your sign-off.

Law Part Codes

A small launch button sits next to every Law Part Code value. Clicking it opens the Lawcodes database on the webpage for that specific Law Part Code, so the practitioner can quickly access the relevant charge information, including current penalties.

Confirming AI-suggested charges

You can confirm charges one at a time, or in bulk after a quick review of the whole list.

• Accept a single charge: Click Accept in the Review column on that row. The charge is locked in.

• Accept everything at once: Click Accept All at the top of the panel. The button shows the number of charges waiting for review, for example Accept All (19). A confirmation toast appears in the corner with an Undo option, so you can roll back the entire batch if you accepted by mistake.

• Accept AI created charges at once: Click Accept All AI Charges at the top of the panel.

• Multi-select: Tick the checkboxes next to the rows you want to act on. An Accept / Reject pair appears at the top of the panel, scoped only to your selection. This is the fastest way to handle a long list when most charges are correct but a few need to come out.

• Reject: Click Reject to remove a charge the AI suggested in error. There is no soft-delete for rejections; the row is removed from the table.

You will not always want to wait for the AI. To add a charge yourself:

A charge can only be edited while it is in the pending state. To put a charge back into pending, click the Edit icon in the Review column on that row.

Once the charge is pending, every field can be edited inline. Click into the cell, change the value, and the edit is saved as soon as you click out.

The Section, Act and Offence description fields lock once a Law Part Code is in place; if any of those need to change, update the Law Part Code first and the rest will refresh. Status is also editable between Active, Withdrawn and Finalised.

New documents arrive on a matter all the time, and that includes additional charges. When that happens, click Populate From Charge Sheet at the top of the panel. LEAP scans the new content and adds any charges it had not previously identified. Existing charges are not duplicated.

You can re-run the AI as often as you like. There is a short cooldown to prevent accidental double-clicks.

Four filter chips above the table let you switch between:

• All charges — every row, regardless of status
• Active — all charges set to the status of Active (the default)
• Withdrawn — charges you have set to Withdrawn
• Finalised — charges you have set to Finalised

The number on each chip updates automatically as you make changes.

Existing matters keep working as they did before. The free-text charge fields you may have used previously are still there. To bring a legacy matter into the new workflow, add the table by editing your table types and selecting Criminal Charges, then click Populate From Charge Sheet. The system will read the correspondence already on the file and populate the table.
