Displays a summary of the documents that have already been imported (in green). To upload additional statements, click on import more documents, then select from your correspondence folder again.

• Note: It may take 2-3 minutes to process statements once they have been uploaded, and some statements may require additional processing which can take up to 5 business days.
• Files can be sorted by alphabetical, reverse alphabetical, newest first, or oldest first.

• Net inflows and outflows (monthly net cash flow, excluding internal transfers between the supplied accounts).
• Transactions by category (lets you see at a glance where money is being spent).
• ATM withdrawals (with a sub-category for ATM withdrawals at locations like casinos, hotels, bars, pubs and clubs).
• Gambling, bottle shops, adult entertainment, jewellery and other potential wastage.
• Real estate, taxes, government benefits, school fees, loans, and other expense categories that can often be relevant depending on the circumstances of the case.
• The Family Violence section pulls out transactions that contain insults and profanity (note: these transactions will be ‘collapsed’ by default so you will not need to read or see anything without first clicking to expand).  
• Cryptocurrency-related transactions.
• Recurring transactions.

Exclusions let you filter out specific transactions to refine your analysis.

• Narrow date ranges (e.g., focus on post-separation spending).
• Exclude outliers, such as real estate sale proceeds.
• Choose to exclude from graphs only or the entire report (including transaction lists).

Effortlessly draft Part N by pulling accurate spending data from the client’s bank statements.

• Add household details or confirm no other members reside with the client.
• Select which accounts should be used to calculate Part N, and across what period of time.
• Review the automatic categorisation of expenses. Select individual or multiple transactions to edit any of Ruffle’s categorisations.
• Use the search feature to perform a comprehensive search of transactions for further analysis. Automatically import the Part N table into your LEAP Financial Statement.
• Generate summary PDFs and Excel spreadsheets to use as supporting evidence where required.

• Can Ruffle process statements that are sent as images?

Images must be saved as PDFs before they can be processed by Ruffle.

• Can Ruffle process secure PDF files (e.g. password protected bank statements)?

No, you must first create a PDF that can be opened without a password.

• Can Ruffle process statements that are in zip files?

No, you must extract the zip file and save the enclosed PDFs into LEAP. You will then be able to select the PDFs in Ruffle.

• Will Ruffle deal with transaction listings provided in Excel format?

Currently, Ruffle only accepts documents in PDF format.

• Does your naming convention affect the outcome, or does Ruffle know it is a Bank Statement?

The filename does not matter - Ruffle examines the contents of the document.

• Is there a difference in Ruffle's capacity when uploading digital statements versus scans of physical copies of statements

Ruffle can process digital statements as well as scans of physical documents. The better the source document, the more likely Ruffle will process your document quickly and accurately. (Mistakes are more likely with low quality scans, but we still have technology to identify and correct them.) If a PDF is illegible, it will be rejected.

• Can Ruffle rename the statements?

No, but LEAP's new AI Paralegal can. 

• Can you use statements that are attached to an email in Leap or do the documents have to be extracted from the email first before entering into Ruffle?

No, the statements must first be saved into LEAP as PDFs.

This includes how Ruffle handles multiple rounds of disclosures, how it can process statements overnight, etc.

• If you have a lot of statements to process, will Ruffle run overnight even the computer is shut down?

Yes, as long as the documents have finished uploading, you can turn off your computer, and the processing will continue in the background.

• If there are no bank statements but there are transaction listings, can Ruffle process this (e.g. the bank statements are only issued once every 6 months)?

Yes, Ruffle supports statements and transaction listings and intelligently handles overlaps so that you don't see the same transaction multiple times from multiple source documents.

• Once you have used ‘Ruffle’, in a matter, but only imported and processed some of the statements held in the matter, is it possible to then remove all those statements you have imported and do a completely different set of statements in the same matter?

Not exactly, but you can do something similar:

1. 1. In the Financial Statement tab, you can specify which accounts, and what date range, should be used to generate your client's Part N and Part G, and which should be used to generate the other side's Part N and Part G.
   2. In the Transactions tab, you can create exclusions, to remove transactions from the report. You can have multiple exclusions (e.g., "Hide husband's accounts", "Hide wife's accounts", "Hide business accounts") and toggle them on and off as you please.

• What if expenses are listed over several accounts and credit card statements? Does Ruffle process multiple accounts and statements together or can it only summarise one at a time?

All accounts are processed together, so for example, you can easily see all gambling expenditure across all accounts. Ruffle keeps track of which account a transaction came from, however, and you can filter by account if required. You can also search for transactions between accounts, such as from a joint account into the other side's personal account.

• Can you view the source document for each of the categorised transactions (view the original statement with highlighted transactions)

Yes, simply click the Zoom in button next to any transaction (the magnifying glass with a + sign). Ruffle will show you the file, the page number, and the transaction number on that page.

• Bearing in mind that the duty of disclosure is an ongoing duty, how can we ensure the analysis includes documents provided after we have run a Ruffle process?

Ruffle is designed from the ground up to handle multiple rounds of disclosure.

1. 1. Add the latest documents to your LEAP correspondence folder.
   2. Open Ruffle.
   3. Go to the Imports tab and click Import more documents.
   4. Select the new documents.

• Often statements are being sent in a disorganised manner to create confusion, will Ruffle sort in statement order?

Yes, Ruffle identifies the statements or transaction listings based on their contents and then presents them sorted chronologically on a per-account basis.

• Will it be able to pick up, for example, a Coles purchase which also shows a cash out amount?

Yes, if the bank statement mentions the cash out amount, Ruffle can identify it. If the bank statement does not mention it, then Ruffle cannot. (Similarly, Ruffle can't tell if the Coles purchase was for groceries or just gift cards.

• How does Ruffle know what to accurately categorise the transactions as? And can you manually apply a category?

To categorise a transaction, we first consult a database of known merchants in Australia. If no match is found (for example, if it is a bank-to-bank transfer, or a less well-known merchant) we use AI to attempt categorisation. Manual categorisation is not yet supported.

• How accurate is the search function and transactions analysis?

In our testing, 98% of transactions were extracted without error. Where errors did occur, they were predominantly in the transaction description, and mostly mild errors relating to punctuation. Only 0.2% of transactions had an incorrect amount.

• What is the security for these documents? Given there are strict warnings when uploading any personal info of clients into AI like ChatGPT, how is this information secured?

All data is stored in LEAP's cloud databases, under the supervision of the LEAP InfoSec team. AI Processing is performed on a "no retention" basis, so that the source materials are not stored, and the output is not used for training or other model improvement.

• When sharing the Ruffle link with clients, can you control what they can edit?

Clients can do everything you can do, except add more documents and share with others.

• Do we get a notification as to what changes (if any) the client makes on Part N after we have shared it with them?

This is not currently available.

• Can you export a transaction report?

Yes. The Part N screen has export options for PDF and Excel, at the bottom of the page. In the Transactions tab, any list of transactions can be exported to Excel (including the All transactions list). Finally, the entire Transactions page can be printed or saved to PDF using the Print or PDF button at the top of the page. 

• Aside from sharing a link and accessing the tabs, is there a way to print a PDF of the AI summaries for the file for future reference?

Right click on the page, click Print, and then use the Print to LEAP to save a PDF to your correspondence folder.

• Can you export the separated and organised bank statements?

Not currently, but AI Paralegal can do that. As Ruffle and AI Paralegal are both new to LEAP, we are still working on the combined user-experience in this regard.

• Can you use Ruffle for Application for Consent Orders?

The Application for Consent Orders deals more with the value of assets and liabilities, whereas Ruffle deals more with the movement of money (such as transfers and purchases). LEAP comes with a separate tool, called Balance Sheet +, which allows you to workshop settlement proposals and turn them into orders. Having said that, Ruffle could be helpful to identify undisclosed assets (e.g. by detecting rental income) or liabilities (e.g. loan repayments) and could be helpful in calculating income and child support amounts.

• What is the cost of having Ruffle as part of LEAP?

Ruffle is included in your LEAP Subscription.

• In the T&Cs it states "We reserve the right to charge fees or costs for your use of the platform" - what usage is associated with fees?

Currently, the entire Ruffle service is included with your LEAP subscription. We are looking to bring Ruffle within the AI Paralegal model, which would allow your firm to bill for the work performed by Ruffle.

• Is there a manual to assist with navigating the program?

Not currently, but as part of your subscription to LEAP, there is a Client Care Support team on hand if you have questions that are not covered in this Help Centre Article.
